HABC, UK
Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling (QCF)

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations do
not set any weight limits for lifting and carrying
loads. Amendments to the regulations in 2002 now
require employees to have adequate or appropriate
knowledge or training in order to make assessments
to judge whether safe moving is possible.
The regulations apply to almost all work environments from offices to care
homes and factories. There are different risks associated with different
sectors and this regulated qualification offers learning outcomes which are
suitable for all.

How is this qualification structured?

This qualification is made up of one mandatory unit for which learners
must successfully complete the assessment. This qualification can be taken
as a free standing qualification or as part of a wider programme of training.
It particularly complements the HABC Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in
the Workplace (QCF).

ASSESSMENT:

This qualification is assessed in
two parts. Learners must pass
both parts in order to achieve the
qualification.
Part 1 is a 30 minute, 15-question,
multiple-choice examination,
where learners are required to
correctly answer a minimum of 10
out of 15 questions to pass.
Part 2 is a competency-based
assessment where learners must
practically demonstrate the
correct techniques as indicated
within the learning outcomes
of the unit. Learners can either
achieve a pass or a fail in this
section
